Port

All shared hosting servers use a non-default SSH port to reduce automated brute-force noise. SSH listens on port 831.

Username

Use your cPanel username. That is the same username you use to log in to cPanel. Do not use an email address or an extra FTP account.

Hostname

Use the server hostname from the hosting product in the client area, or from cPanel. Do not assume it matches your website domain.

Password

Use your cPanel password. To change it, see How do I change my cPanel password?.

Connect

# SSH
ssh -p831 -l username your-server-hostname

# SCP
scp -P831 ~/file.txt username@your-server-hostname:~/

# rsync
rsync -av -e 'ssh -p831' ~/file.txt username@your-server-hostname:~/

Replace username and your-server-hostname with your SSH username and server hostname. SFTP uses the same username, hostname, and port.
